Tools
Operational applications of the integrated transition-risk model.
A tool here is a free, online calculator that lets a reader put numbers into a slice of the model behind the Practice cases. Each tool corresponds to a published working paper and exposes the same logic the paper describes — so the answer the tool gives you and the answer the paper gives a researcher are derived from the same canonical tables, with the same version stamps.
The tools are designed around three principles. Quantities, not a bill — the point of the calculation is the conversion chain (feedstock → process → fuel, with the side-products, residuals and binding ceilings made explicit), not a single price tag. Show conversions, not totals across units — mass in tonnes and energy in megawatt-hours live on separate axes, and combining them into a “total” misleads. Reproducibility by stamping — every result carries a code version and a data version, so any figure a reader cites can be traced back to an exact model state.
Available tools
- SAF inputs calculator — companion to Working Paper 03. Given a target SAF volume and pathway (HEFA, FT, ATJ, PtL, …), returns the inputs required, the saleable side-products, the residuals, and traffic lights on the feedstock, power and regulatory ceilings the request approaches.
In development
Tools for the biocircular construction and maritime cases (see Practice) will follow as the corresponding working papers and modules are published. Each new tool slots into the same pattern: a paper that sets out the model, a calculator that lets a reader exercise it.
